- Most sites have serious performance problems
– How do you find out?
» Application Class 3 times
» RMF data – Timeframe of data?
» Online Monitor – Know what to Look For….
» DB2 Buffer Pool Displays - Why does everyone have problems?
– Lack of staff
– Lack of knowledge and understanding
» Mis-conceptions and mis-information about new architectures
– SMS
– DB2 Stogroups
– New Architectures (Logical to Physical Mappings)
The DASD subsystem historically has been a performance problem, and remains a problem in most installations. The basics of performance have not changed with the newer technologies. Dataset placement remains a critical issue, and has become even more difficult to manage in todays environments. Just turning the entire DASD environment over to SMS without proper planning is a guaranteed path to poor performance. SMS can do a reasonable job, if the ACS classes are properly set up. If not,….. you die!
