No Silver Bullets…
The current proliferation of newer RAID devices will not necessarily provide performance improvements, and often make things worse when the basics are ignored or mis-understood.
Dataset placement still matters. It’s really easy to overload the logical volumes, and to overload the cache.
The poor performance exhibited above is an example of what happens when people (and management) don’t understand the hardware/software limitations and believe the hardware vendor.
The screen shot above shows that the performance of the DBM1 address space is degraded, and this is also impacting the applications.
